Julianna Liptak (1924-2017)

Peacefully, on Sunday, August 20, 2017, Julianna Liptak passed away in her 94th year. Julianna is survived by her daughter Julianna Liptak and husband Walter Muma of West Grey, son Ernest Liptak and partner Megan Thompson of Perth, grandson Alexander Harwood and partner Jessica McNeilage of Kitchener, nieces Joan Mak and Mary Ann Evans of Welland and nephew Robert Mak of France. Julianna will also be fondly remembered by friend and caregiver John Cook of Tillsonburg and former son-in-law Robert Harwood of Victoria B.C. Predeceased by husband Andrew Liptak (1974), longtime companion Andrew Bernath (2014), parents Kalman Mak and Julianna Mak, stepmother Hermina, son John Liptak, grandson Daniel Harwood and brother Vincent Mak. Julianna was born on August 3, 1924 in Patak, Hungary and emigrated to Canada in 1936. Julianna and Andrew were tobacco farmers in the Tillsonburg area for many years until Andrew became too ill to farm. She then took a job in the kitchen in Tillsonburg Hospital where she worked for many years until her retirement. Julianna loved to cook and her specialties were the Hungarian dishes that she learned from her grandmother and stepmother after her mother passed away. She will be remembered for her delicious kifli, kalacs, and her good-natured laughter and zest for life. Cremation has taken place and a private family service is being held at a later date. Donations in Julianna’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg, ON, N4G 3T6 (519-842-5221) who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
