GILBERT LEON VANWYNSBERGHE (1946 – 2017)

Gilbert Leon Vanwynsberghe passed away peacefully at Parkwood Hospital, London on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Survived by his loving wife Ruth (Butcher), 4 children Shannon Vanwynsberghe (Pat), Nicole Freel (Kez), Stephanie Fitzpatrick (Ed), Adam Vanwynsberghe (Angela), 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Brother of Hubert (Elaine), Germain, Marcel (Janet), Luc (Terry), Patrick (Shirley), Robert, Paul (Laurie), Godlieve (Mario), Anna, Francine (Reg), Godlie, Bridgette (Albert) Bolle and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by 1 sister Magdelena Street (2011) and his parents Maria (Algoet) (2009) and Robert Vanwynsberghe (1985). Gilbert is also survived by brothers-in-law Glenn Butcher (Joan), Howard and Keith Butcher and sister-in-law Laura Lickers (Bill) and his step-son Michael Pearson (Sara-Jayne). Gilbert immigrated to Canada in 1957. He worked a number of different jobs throughout the years, but his pride and joy was building silos. First with Kitchener Silos then Lamers Silos. He also enjoyed building his tall ships and his Star Trek collection. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 12 noon until service time which will be at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Robinson officiating. Private family inurnment at the Tillsonburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimers Society of Oxford County or Parkwood Hospital (Mental Health Unit) would be appreciated by the family.
