Peacefully at Stirling Heights Long Term Care, Cambridge, Robert “Bob” Frederick Simpson of Cambridge, formerly of Tillsonburg passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the age of 93 years with his loving family by his side. Predeceased by his loving wife Faith (2010), his first wife Cynthia (1994), son’s Robert and Peter. Super, loving father to his son Mark Simpson and his wife Diane of Cambridge, Lesley Hartman and her husband Craig of Burlington, Linda Widish and her husband Ted of Tillsonburg, and Foster Daughter, Debbie Brinkman of Alberta. Proud and nurturing grandfather to Danielle, Leanne and Matthew Simpson, Michael Hartman and his wife Erin, David Hartman; Allen Widish and his wife Nancy; Bradley Widish. Great grandfather to Amy and Andrew. Survived by his brother Duncan (Maxine) of England. Predeceased by his parents Mildred and Ross Miles. Bob was born in Plumstead, England on September 06, 1924. As a young man he served in the British Navy during World War 2 as a Lead Stoker on the HMS Capel and the HMS Contest. Bob was serving on the HMS Capel when it was torpedoed on Boxing Day (1944). He was in Hiroshima 6 months after the bomb had been dropped, as part of a reconnaissance team. After the war, Robert served as a Bobby in England for the Worcesshire County Police Force. Bob immigrated to Canada on April 17, 1957, and found work as a school photographer, before shifting his career to become a great salesman with the many different companies he was employed with. Bob loved to travel, especially cruises with his wife Faith. He was able to see the world on over 25 different cruises. Bob loved Ballroom Dancing, Music, Gardening, Hockey as an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and Team Canada fan. He volunteered for many years with multiple organizations, he was a Cub Leader and a member of the Masonic Lodge # 652 G.R.C. (West Toronto Masonic Temple). He truly was the life of the party, his humour kept you laughing and entertained. His life lived, allowed him to be a wealth of knowledge on world events. The family will receive friends and family at Ostrander’s Funeral Home Limited, 43 Bidwell St. Tillsonburg (519) 842-5221 on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service for Bob will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Tillsonburg on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Osita Oluigbo officiating. Interment will be at the Tillsonburg Cemetery. At the family’s request memorial donations (payable by cheque) may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Aplastic Anemia & Myelodysplasia Association of Canada (AAMAC), and the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
