THERESIA (GUNDERT) KNAB (1928 – 2018)
Surrounded by the love of her family, Theresia passed away peacefully at University Hospital, on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in her 91st. year. Daughter of the late Maria and Paul Gundert. Beloved wife of Georg (2000) for over 50 years. Proud mother of Theresa Vander Hoeven (John), George (1975), and Judy Schonberger (Rob). Loving Oma to Alex Vander Hoeven (Angela Rivard), Kristen Rubinoff (Dan), David Schonberger (Michelle), Stephanie Schonberger (Samer Haj-Bakri), Katie Schonberger (Ryan Ferland), and Zach Schonberger. Oma-Oma to great-granddaughters, Luna and Joni.
Survived by her brother, Josef Gundert of Germany, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Viktor and Anna Knab of Tillsonburg , sister-in-law Johanna Gundert of Tillsonburg, sisters-in-law Barbara Knab of Germany, Theresia Pizag and Josephine Piriti of Hungary. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Hans, Paul and sister, Maria.
Born in Zsámbék, Hungary and having resided in Germany, Toronto, and Guysboro, Theresia and Georg grew tobacco and retired a number of years ago to Tillsonburg. She loved family traditions which included preparing food for all her family and friends. We will always remember the joy and smile on her face when the family was together. Our Mother was also known to her children and grandchildren’s friends with highest regard, as “Oma”. She was always lovingly embraced as “Oma” by the entire Oliveira family. Theresia was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg and St. Ladislaus Church. She was a member of the Delhi German Home Ladies Society, and CWL of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tillsonburg.
Family and friends will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on April 26, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 7:00pm. CWL Prayers at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11:00 am at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg. Father Tom Ferrera officiating . Interment follows at St Ladislaus Cemetery, Courtland. The family extends their appreciation to the caring nurses and staff at TDMH, and University Hospital, as well as Dr. B.Roth, for his care over the past years. We would also like to express our sincerest thanks to the staff at Tillsonburg Retirement Centre for their loving care. Memorial donations to St. Mary’s Church would be appreciated by the Knab family.
