ODETTE MARIA KERCKAERT (1933 – 2018)
Peacefully, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, Odette Maria (Coucke) Kerckaert passed away in her 86th year. Born in Kortemark, Belgium to her late parents Odiel and Rachel Coucke. Beloved wife of the late Alfred Kerckaert (2004). Alfred and Odette were retired tobacco farmers and enjoyed their retirement years in the lovely Town of Tillsonburg and their winters in Sarasota, Florida. Dearly loved mother of Ingrid (Gerry Goddard) of Port Dover and Marleen of Tillsonburg. Cherished and much loved “Meme” grandmother to Curtis (Dana), Shane (Allegra) and Jessica. Loving great-grandmother to Nya and Nolan. Survived by beloved brother-in-law Archie Kerckaert (Rosie) of Tillsonburg and nieces and nephews. Odette is also lovingly remembered and survived by several relatives in Belgium. Odette was predeceased by her brother Etienne Coucke, Belgium (2006). Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her much joy. They were her sunshine. Meme loved making Pannenkoeken (crepes) and chocolate stutjes (sandwiches) for her grandchildren, and we all enjoyed her potato croquettes and Lukken on special family get togethers. “Mom, we will proudly carry on the Belgian cuisine tradition with much loved and fond memories as we savour each bite.” Many will remember Odette for her beautiful, kind smile and love of knitting. Knitting was another expression of her love. She knitted both for family and friends. Her love of knitting was shared with the community and her involvement with the International Izzy Doll project. A project where small knitted dolls are used to fill up medical supply kits and then distributed to bring joy and comfort to children around the world mainly Afghanistan. She was so proud to share her passion with this amazing international project. Friends and relatives will be received by the family at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Catholic Service of Remembrance will be held in Ostrander’s Chapel on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Father John Pirt officiating. Interment to follow at the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
