Charles "Charlie" Vander Hoeven
Lifelong resident and farmer of Tillsonburg and Mabee’s Sideroad passed away peacefully at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on May 12, 2016 in his 88th year, with his family by his side. Son of Emile and Eliza Vander Hoeven. Beloved husband of Dorothy “Dolly” Herreman for over 64 years. Proud father of John (Theresa Knab), Marjorie Cooper (Dave), Alice Anderson (Mark) and Jane Bamford (Rob). Loving grandfather to Alex, Kristen (Dan Rubinoff), Candace (Bob Westman), Jill (Simon Jackson), Kelly, Emily and Matthew. Charlie and Dolly were natural partners who grew tobacco together and later enjoyed their retirement in Tillsonburg. We will always remember the smiles on their faces and the smoothness of their steps while in each others arms on the dance floor. Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing and sharing stories with friends and neighbours. He loved his family and his farm more than anything else. Charlie was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the Delhi Belgian Club. He served as a committeeman for many years with the Flue Cured Tobacco Growers Marketing Board and was a school board trustee with Goshen Public School. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Parish Prayers will commence on Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. Personal reflections will be held in Ostrander’s Chapel on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 10:45 a.m. immediately followed by the Liturgical Service with Father Tom Ferrera officiating. Interment in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. The family extends their appreciation to the caring nurses and staff at TDMH, as well as Drs. Abdalla, Liwanpo and Lamb for their care over the past few years. Donations to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church are appreciated by the family.
